About Our Council

Archbishop Bergan Council #6429 was chartered in 1972 to serve the men and families of St. Columbkille Parish in Papillion. For more than fifty years, our Knights have put the principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism into action right here in our community.

Throughout the year, we host our monthly Knights Breakfast and card parties, along with our Christmas Party, Religious Appreciation Dinner, Steak Dinner, Fat Friday Dinner, sausage making, and our sweet corn picking and sale. We run the Coats for Kids drive with St. Vincent de Paul, the Tootsie Roll Drive for people with intellectual disabilities, the Youth Free Throw Contest and Soccer Challenge, a Pro-Life Essay Contest, and Red Cross blood drives. The funds we raise support parish projects, local families in need, and young people in Papillion.

Our Namesake

Our council is named for Archbishop Gerald T. Bergan, who led the Archdiocese of Omaha from 1948 to 1969 after serving as Bishop of Des Moines. Known as the “building bishop,” he oversaw remarkable growth in parishes, schools, and Catholic institutions across eastern Nebraska, and in 1959 he consecrated St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha.

Archbishop Bergan died in 1972, the same year our council was chartered. We carry his name as a reminder of his dedication to building up the Church and serving the people of this region.
